THE VENUE: Dillington House is a rather grand venue in Somerset; beautifully combining old and new architecture and offering first class facilities with a friendly informality. The venue is part owned by Somerset County Council and Singing for Larks has been enjoying weekends here since 2000. The house is set in seven acres of mature parkland in beautiful South Somerset, 12 miles south east of Taunton and about a 20 minute drive from the M5. The nearest train station is Crewkerne (7 miles).
THE SINGING: On this Singing in Harmony weekend we’ll learn a variety of songs: some will be short and quick to learn, others more complex; some will be sung in English and others in different languages; some may be traditional or contemporary acapella songs and others may be from different musical traditions but re-arranged especially for unaccompanied voices. Song styles may include international folk, gospel, jazz, soul, barbershop… we’ll go for a good mix, with the overall aim of having a right good sing!
THE TIMETABLE: You’ll be sent a full timetable before the event, but in brief: the weekend starts at around 6pm on Friday evening, with a sing before dinner and finishes around 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon, with a sing after lunch. In between, there will be more singing, more food and some free time, when you can relax, explore the local area, socialise, or even carry on singing with other participants.
