Description

Irving Berlin’s gentle, happy melody is straightforward & repetitive, but the harmonies offer a greater challenge, with their staggered entries & clashes in some sections, so I’ve categorised this arrangement as having Some Challenges.

Irving Berlin wrote the song to celebrate the birth of his daughter, Mary Ellin. As the melody is not very busy and has frequent long held notes, I wanted the harmonies to add some rhythmic interest, without sounding too frenetic. While many groups find the split timing quite a challenge at first, most end up thoroughly enjoying both the experience (involving intense listening to the other parts) & the resulting sound.
